Wednesday, August 8

Today Melissa told us she would have to leave tomorrow morning. School starts for her in the next few days and she has some work to be done before that. We will miss her a great deal, but Linda is in such good shape and able to do so much for herself that we can only wish her a safe trip home.

Linda's therapy today consisted of:
  • a session with the neuro-therapist to assess her cognitive/mental abilities. "That was a bunch of garbage. They showed me some pictures and asked what was missing, what was next, or what I saw 8 pictures ago." This was the first time she has asked for pain meds in several days.
  • practice getting into and out of a walk-in shower and a tub/shower. She will be using both at home. She had no problems with this.
  • gathering materials for and preparing a meal. Again, no problems. She made herself a toasted cheese sandwich.
  • learned that seahorse males give birth. (speech therapy). Normally, what they read to her in this therapy is of little interest to her, but this item tickled her.
  • upper body work with rubber bands.
  • petting one of the two therapy dogs. This one is a havanese named Reeses. The other one is a named Wrigley, and I can't remember what breed it was.
  • enjoyed two (soon to be three) delicious meals. Each afternoon, she picks a menu for the following day. She's going to really miss her daily cupcakes, among other things.
  • more exercises like she has done before.
Tomorrow is Performance Day, where she will demonstrate her proficiency in all the exercises she has had. More tomorrow.

  1. Phil,

Thanks for the update. Sounds like Linda is getting back to her old self. You better practice your baking skills so you can make her lots of good cupcakes. Tell her I am thinking of her. Take care.
