Thursday afternoon

The first full day at St. Luke's was another success!  Mom has her appetite back and had a good breakfast before a full day of activity.  In her morning PT sessions she went on walks of 120 feet, 180 feet and then 160 feet -- wow!  While vision loss is still disorienting, mom can see enough to get around.  At this point she is still using a walker, but I got the impression that she may not be using that for much longer.

Occupational therapy including working with some weights on upper body strength and then shuffling and sorting a deck of cards by suit.  In speech therapy mom did some reading and is able to see words and follow along OK, but she has trouble seeing the words on the right side of the page which is tough.  She is working on moving her head around so she can see better, and we are still quite convinced that once the bleeding in her brain goes down, vision will return.

We are hopeful that we will receive the pathology report about the tumor tomorrow, but it might not come until Monday or Tuesday.  All indications seem to point toward it being a benign tumor, but it will nice to know that for sure.

Later this evening Cassie (my brother Michael's wife) is bringing spaghetti from Fazoli's for dad and I and cupcakes from a new place in Iowa City for the whole family.  When I asked the nurses if it was OK for mom to have outside food like cupcakes, they said yes, but we had to bring enough to share with them!  Everyone here is very nice and there are even a few who seem to appreciate the Potter sense of humor (and it's rare to find people like that!)

More later.
